Independent Professional Body

NZCERTS operates as an Incorporated Society under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022.

The Society functions as an independent, not-for-profit professional body governed by its members 

Governance Structure

The organisation is governed by an elected committee responsible for overseeing the Society’s activities and ensuring it operates in accordance with its constitution and objectives.

The committee manages the affairs of the Society, supports engagement with stakeholders, and ensures that the organisation operates in the public interest.

Governance Principles

NZCERTS governance is guided by the following principles:

• transparency in decision-making
• independence from commercial influence
• effective conflict-of-interest management
• democratic member participation
• accountability to members.

These safeguards help ensure the Society maintains professional credibility and operates with integrity.

NZCERTS supports the effective functioning of New Zealand’s hazardous substances regulatory framework.

The Society provides a professional forum where Compliance Certifiers can share experience and discuss practical implementation issues arising from the application of regulatory requirements.

NZCERTS does not exercise regulatory authority and does not replace or duplicate the functions of WorkSafe or other regulatory agencies.

The Society does not make regulatory decisions, issue certifications, enforcement decisions, and does not represent members in enforcement or dispute matters.

Its role is to support professional capability, dialogue, and shared understanding within the certification community.

NZCERTS encourages constructive and professional engagement between Compliance Certifiers, regulators, and other stakeholders.
